Brief Technical Explanation

       Upon reviewing the list of performance criteria to be certified by Casa da Vida, it becomes acutely obvious that it is not possible to build houses out of wood, especially in high wind areas, and qualify.  These qualifying standards are very rigorous and quite inflexible. That is the reason there are so few, even in the midst of a health crisis. 

     The Casa da Vida building system utilizing the patent pending StressTorq® technology embraces these products and elevates them to an art form. Our intellectual properties overcome the difficulties and expense to provide a comprehensive solution in an affordable package.

     In the wake of Hurricane Andrew and other killer hurricanes, FEMA and Florida code-making bodies performed exhaustive engineering failure analysis of building systems. One common factor  became readily apparent. The sloped roof of a house acts like the wing of an airplane. As air flows over the roof of a house, a lateral and compressive load is applied to the structure which increases exponentially with wind speed on the windward side, but as wind flows over the ridge, a low pressure area forms on the leeward slope- the same force that causes an airplane to be lifted into the air. This force lifts the roof from the walls, and when the wind gets under the roof, it rips the roof off, setting the stage for the eminent collapse of the house. Casa da Vida overcomes this limitation using the proprietary StressTorq® technology that disallows the roof system from detaching from the walls, or the walls detaching from the foundation. Used in conjunction with our proprietary panelized system, high wind-ratings can be obtained, as well as seismic ratings. 

     The Gulf Coast and Southern Atlantic Coast are subject not only to continuous high wind exposure, but also to high heat loads, extreme humidity, and infestations of the devastating Formosan Termite. The Casa da Vida system is super energy efficient, with an effective value of R60 for the composite structure, thus requiring only 20% of the energy to heat and cool as compared to conventional houses of similar size and features. The entire structure is naturally termite resistamt. This structure will not support the growth of molds, nor will it burn. Feature for feature, nothing else even comes close to Casa da Vida.
